Acclaimed filmmaker Spike Jonze (”Where the Wild Things are) premieres his latest work: “I’m Here”, a 30-minute short film. The film is a collaboration with Swedish vodka brand ABSOLUT VODKA. “I’m Here” honors the brand’s history while embarking on a new and innovative alliance with one of today’s most original filmmakers. The film came about when ABSOLUT reached out to Jonze to make a film, and gave him creative control to create the film he wanted.“It was a pretty incredible opportunity,” says Jonze.
“They didn’t give me any requirements to make a movie that had anything to do with vodka. They just wanted me to make something that was important to me, and let my imagination take me wherever I wanted. And it wasn’t like working with some huge corporation where I had to meet with committees of people. It was just a small group, and it seemed like creativity and making something that affected them emotionally was the only thing that really mattered to them. I got to make my first love story. It’s about the relationship between two robots living in Los Angeles”.
Film can be seen online from March 19th 2010 on at www.imheremovie.com. Still one more week to go - view the trailer here!
Yesterday, the guys from BRIGHT Tradeshow finally officialy announced the new location for their upcoming Summer show in Berlin. It’s going straight from Frankfurt’s Police Headquarters to the former Ministry for State Security in Berlin! The building on Normannenstraße in Berlin was constructed in 1980 as part of a huge complex and was regarded as a prestige project and showpiece of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR.
Thomas & Marco from BRIGHT on the new location: “It was important to us to continue offering our exhibitors a spatial concept where they can present themselves in the way they always have. The uniqueness of the building and the fact that it hasn’t yet been used for events in our sector makes it very special. It also made our decision a lot easier. Despite all of our enthusiasm, however, we will not forget that for many people the Stasi headquarters is a symbol of many years of dictatorship and oppression.”
I think this is really WOW and am looking forward for July to come. At the same time the location reminded me of the longterm-project STASI - SECRET ROOMS by our artist-friends Daniel & Geo Fuchs and I think this is good fitting frame to show it to you. Daniel & Geo’s strong series of photographs showing the offices & locations of the Stasi. The photos were taken at different venues, such as prisons in Bautzen II and Marienborn, in bunkers in Leipzig and as well at the new BRIGHT location, the former Ministry for State Security. Their images look staged, like movie sets, but incredible these rooms were exactly the same as they were 20 years ago. They air a serene mood, but you can feel the weighing history. Really spooky. Have a closer look at Daniel & Geo’s website here!
Well - Thumbs up for now & let’s see what summer brings!
Emil Kozak is from a small town in Denmark, and was inspired to take on graphic design as a result of his life long passion for skateboarding. He began at an early age to develop his skills, inspired by skateboard-art and the result today is a unique artist with brilliant ideas. The style is fresh and positive, but often with a message that digs deeper. He is a master of composition and has an eye for detail, that is not seen very often.
Typographic, clean lines and few colors is often how Emil Kozak`s artwork is described. Yet, there is always an unexpected surprise: obscure references, playing with words, codes and hints.Kozak is motivated by a simple goal that resonates throughout his work. ”I hope that my work can remind us that imagination can defy gravity and bend time. It is our own responsibility to enjoy every second of the day. Nobody else can do that for us. Have fun, eat candy, do what you love, love what you do… We might get thrown off this spinning ball of iron and mantle tomorrow.”
As a result his work has been exhibited widely all over the world and appeared in numerous magazines and books. He has produced design and artwork for clients such as Vans, Element, Graniph, Eastpak, Burton, Channel Islands, Nike, Lab Skateboards & Uniqlo. See Emil Kozak’s work at Nina sagt Gallery in Düsseldorf. Exhibition “The Ramones saved my Life” starts on March 27, 2010 and ends April 24, 2010. Vernissage 27th, March, 20.00 h with music by Rearview Radio!

The Brits seem to go insane about streetartist Banksy’s new movie “Exit Through the Gift Shop”, at nearly every corner in London you find its movie posters these days. Anyway, let’s see how it will work out in Germany when “Exit Through the Gift Shop” will come to our cinemas this spring. The movie is billed as “the world’s first street art disaster movie”, and described by organizers as “…an amazing ride, a cautionary modern fairy tale . . . with bolt cutters.” Banksy itself quotes: “My ambition was to make a film that would do for graffiti art what ‘Karate Kid’ did for martial arts. A film that would get every school kid in the world picking up a spray can and having a go. As it turns out, i think we might have made a film that does for street art what ‘Jaws’ did for water sking.” Humble, but I like.
Stumbled over this at the blog of our friends from Parasol Island and just had to re-post it: The film was created by photographer Andreas Larsson and shows the Acne Autumn/Winter 10 Denim collection. Beauuutiful!
